Family Photos.... What to Wear?!?!
So we have all heard that when dressing for a photo shoot our features should stand out, not our apparel, right? WRONG!
We all have photos where everyone is wearing white shirts and khakis or black shirts and jeans and yes, they are nice pictures. They don’t show who we are though. When I look back in 20 years I want to see how sassy my daughter was and my sweet little man was at that time. I also want my children to get a sense of what their parents were like back then. I say Let Your Personalities Shine!
So, how do you do that you ask? Start with a piece you love. In our family pictures this year I started with my top. (Although I normally base it around my daughters ensemble because it is so much fun to dress little girls.) I wanted to make sure everyone wore something that was “them” but I also needed to make sure it worked with my shirt. So, I pulled colors from my top and built on from there. Basically I merchandised my family, or in laymen’s terms, I just made sure we coordinated. As you can see, all of the colors were not spot on. For example, my sons green jeans were not the same green as in my top. But if I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times… “It doesn’t have to match, it just can’t clash.” Therefore it worked!
Next time you are trying to pull together outfits for you and yours, just remember… start with a piece or a color that you love and build on from there. Put your family in pieces that represent their characteristics. Last, but not least SMILE!
