Holiday Fashion Tips 2015
Let’s talk about holiday fashion!
How many of you have holiday party’s to go to?
How many have already chosen what you will wear?
Tis’ the season to look fabulous! It is that time of year where we are rushing around, buying Christmas gifts, putting up decorations and getting our homes ready for the festivities. Some how, in the middle of the hustle & bustle, we also have to put together some amazing holiday ensembles. When you are out shopping, try to remember the 4 C’s. Be chic, classic & comfortable and you will be confident!
So what exactly does that mean…. Being chic is being elegant & sophisticated. You can definitely look & feel sexy with out letting it all hang out. A pencil skirt is a great example. It highlights your curves without showing too much skin.
Try to choose classic pieces that can be your “go to” items for holidays to come. When you think classic, think timeless. Some people think classic means basic or boring. Not the case! Jackie O never looked boring did she? Enough said! So lets go back to the pencil skirt. You would not want a basic black pencil that you would wear to the office. You could choose a sequined pencil skirt though. It has the classic silhouette but takes it up a notch for the holiday season. This is the time of year you can get away with glamming it up. Take advantage of it!
Next, & very importantly, make sure you are comfortable in the outfit you choose. It is hard to look, let alone feel, confident if you are constantly adjusting yourself. Nothing looks less confident than a person that is pulling or tugging on their outfit all night.
So, if you follow the 3 C’s, you will exude confidence!
Now let’s break it down into some simple, easy to follow, do’s & don’ts.
Don’t over-accessorize
You do not want to have more trimmings than the tree.
DO pick an amazing statement piece that compliments your outfit.
Eye catching jewelry is key! If ever there was a time to pile on the bangles or don a giant statement necklace, this is it! Just stick to ONE statement. You do not want an arm full of bracelets, huge dangling earrings and a bold necklace, That would be way too much going on.
Don’t feel like you have to be as colorful as the decorations.
DO choose a pop of color!
The pop can be anything….. It could be your shoes, necklace, it could be your bag, it could even be the dress itself. Just pick one pop and keep everything else more neutral.
In this photo, my model is wearing a gorgeous green velvet dress. The dress is the color we are focusing on. You know I love a statement piece and she is wearing a great chunky necklace. We chose a silver though since we already had our color.
I love jewel tones for the holidays, but just because it is Christmas does not mean you have to wear red & green. You could incorporate neons or any brights you love to get into the holiday spirit.
I would pair the above dress with a nude shoe. EVERY woman should have a great natural heel. When your legs are bare, it elongates them and doesn’t break your look up because your eye goes to the color above.
So I said the color does not necessarily need to be holiday in nature. This beautiful blue dress is very festive without screaming Christmas. We paired it with a tonal chunky necklace and again, I would pair it with nude shoes.
Don’t wear all black
You can rarely go wrong with a LBD. However, it is somewhat of a boring choice for this time of year.
DO wear all white
White feels right! It is a very sophisticated look. As you can see, this dress has a little pattern, and a little shine. The neckline has a built in necklace so you do not need any more jewelry.
We pop’d this look with a red jeweled bag.
Don’t light up…..literally
There are some whimsical holiday sweaters that literally light up. Don’t do it! Save these for your kids school holiday party if you feel you must have one.
DO shimmer
This is the time of the year to step it up a notch. The time when you can get away with more, so why not do it! If ever you can get away with sequins, rhinestones or other over the top embellishments, this is it! Take some risks and have some fun.
Wear a metallic blazer, or crystal studded heels. As with everything though, don’t go overboard. Limit your exaggerated pieces to 1 or 2 per ensemble.
Before my model put on this particular outfit, she looked at me like I was crazy. Once she had it on though she LOVED it! She said it was her favorite look and never would have tried it before. Don’t automatically assume you can not wear something. TRY IT ON! You may be surprised.
The pants are green sequins! No, you are not going to wear these in Jan, but why not have fun NOW. The border of the shirt has feathers. This is the kind of whimsy you should go for. If putting both of these pieces together is just too much for you, then pair the fun top with a colored bottom that does not sparkle. The green necklace compliments this look.
Don’t don the denim
You have 11 other months of the year to rock your jeans. Believe me, I love my denim, but this is not the time.
Do experiment with textures
I know we don’t normally walk around in sequined pants but simplicity should be left to another season. During this season your look should stand out and be interesting. You can be shy another month. Leather, lace, faux fur…. Bring it on!
Speaking of fur…… DO start off with statement outerwear
I know we live in Florida, but we do have a few days of cold weather:) You want to look as good coming & going as you do while at the party itself. Let your outerwear spark their attention too. A chic coat is a must have. It is the first thing you see and can pull your entire look together. It could be a fun fur coat like this one or any fashion forward silhouette with an interesting texture or embroidery.
